Strategy 2018–2022
This is the strategy that was approved by the board of Wikimedia Norge on September 3rd 2018.
Vision
Wikimedia Norge will be a visible advocate for knowledge sharing and open access to information. Wikimedia Norge will be the leading Norwegian organization for people who support Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects.
Goals
Wikimedia Norge will:
- support and strengthen the large and enthusiastic community of volunteers, readers and contributors that the Wikimedia projects have
- increase the content quality of Wikimedia projects, especially the projects in Norwegian Bokmål, Norwegian Nynorsk and Northern Sami
- increase the diversity of contributors to the Wikimedia projects
- increase the contribution to free information from authorities and civil society
Strategy
Support and strengthen the large and enthusiastic community of volunteers, readers and contributors that the Wikimedia projects have
by:
- engaging, inspiring and helping readers and contributors
- giving practical and financial support and be a resource for volunteer contributors and partners
- being a clear voice in public debates about sharing knowledge
- cooperating with Wikimedia communities and organizations in other countries
- recruiting more members to become an organization that reflects the entire Wikimedia community
- being a well-run, transparent organization with a good working environment, relevant competence and a balanced gender distribution amongst the employees and in the board, financed by several sources
Increase the content quality of Wikimedia projects, especially the projects in Norwegian Bokmål, Norwegian Nynorsk and Northern Sami
by:
- cooperating with various institutions and organizations that can contribute to better quality
- creating meeting places between partners and the volunteer community so that the volunteers can access good resources
- giving practical and financial support to initiatives for quality improvement from members and other contributiors
- cooperating with Wikimedia communities in other countries
- using and developing relevant technical innovations
Increase the diversity of contributors to the Wikimedia projects
by:
- offering courses and creating meeting places to get more contributors from groups with low representation
- cooperating with institutions and organizations that can contribute from areas of low representation
- seeking out and supporting under-represented contributors, contributing to a greater content diversity and making sure free knowledge reaches more people
Increase the contribution to free information from authorities and civil society
by:
- encouraging authorities, intsitutions and other communities to sharing information and archive material with a free license
- being a supporter of authorities, institutions and communities who wish to share knowledge and archive materials
- doing outreach work regarding the various Wikimedia projects
- actively aiming for productive contributors
