Arctic Art+Feminism
With 20 billion page views every month, Wikipedia is one of the first stops when people search for information. It is a cornerstone of the digital age, but the information within it does not reflect the situation in the world. With Arctic Art+ Feminism we want to adress two important knowledge gaps at once: the gender gap and the indigenous gap.
Art is the common denominator because art and handcraft traditions can be an important part of documenting history and culture in many indigenous cultures.
Art+feminism is a global movement working for a better internet. On Art + Feminism's home page you can read:
When cis and trans women, non-binary people, Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities are not represented in the writing and editing on the tenth-most-visited site in the world, information about people like us gets skewed and misrepresented. The stories get mistold. We lose out on real history. That’s why we’re here: to change it.
Since 2014, over 18,000 people at more than 1,260 events around the world have participated in our edit-a-thons, resulting in the creation and improvement of more than 84,000 articles on Wikipedia and its sister projects.''
Arctic Art+Feminism aims to reduce the knowledge gaps online. This is done throug edit-a-thons and information campaigns.

Millions of people around the world use Wikipedia every day. Wikipedia is actually among the world's 5 most visited websites. Not everyone knows that the free encyclopedia Wikipedia is written and maintained by voluntary contributors. Everyone can contribute their knowledge on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects! Wikipedia is one of several Wikimedia projects. Other major Wikimedia projects include Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
Wikimedia Norge is a NGO that works to make knowledge free and accessible to everyone by supporting contributors on the Wikimedia projects through institutional collaboration and course activities. We have projects for sharing of knowledge in both Bokmål, Nynorsk and Northern Sámi, and also projects for sharing of photo collections and archive material. By describing the world, we also change it a little. Here you can read more about our work related to Sámi knowledge online and our work on increasing the diversity among Wikipedia contributors and in the content on Wikipedia.
This project follows Wikimedia Norge's friendly space policy.
The Arctic Art+Feminism project is supported by funding from The Fritt Ord Foundation.
